Tim Rodie Rides Motorbikes
United Kingdom

I'm Tim and I'm a car journalist… but at heart I'm a slightly lanky fat bloke who likes riding motorbikes. Mostly on the road, occasionally on track and off-road if I've suddenly had an attack of overconfidence.

Bunker hunting in the Hürtgen forest and my touring COSTS! MT10 trip ep 3.
We round up our 5-day trip to Europe by leaving Germany for Belgium, stopping on the way for a quick look around the Hürtgenwald - home to the longest battle ever fought by the US army. Join me as I search for bunkers and try to get a taste of what happened there. Then it's out into Belgium, the rain and on to how much the entire trip cost me.

Dambusters & Germany's best-kept biking-road secrets: MT-10 tour Ep 2
Переглядів 4,2 тис.16 годин тому
After a nearly disastrous first two days of the tour it's time for some Dambusters action at the Moehnesee dam - including a surprise war memorial(!). Then it's over to some of my favourite roads in Germany in the Harz mountains. Join us for some travel-vlogging nonsense and a kebab as we explore the twisties of the Harz and… a German war cemetery. Because of course. 📸 Follow me on Instagram: i...

In the first episode we get to Trier across some brilliantly smooth(!) Belgian roads, then faff about at the Nurburgring and see the bridge at Remagen. Then it's time to head towards our next war destination… 📸 Follow me on Instagram: instagram...
Middleweight naked perfection? 2024 KTM 990 Duke review
Переглядів 11 тис.21 день тому
The new KTM 990 Duke promises to deliver a riding experience that's closer to the 1390 SuperDuke than the 790 - luckily I spent an afternoon riding the 990 immediately after getting off the 1390 SuperDuke R. And made a video. Which is this one. Join me to find out hard how the 990 punches, whether I'd pick it over a 1390 and whether it's up to snuff against the new Yamaha MT-09. And whether it ...
Has Triumph hit the mark? 2024 Daytona 660 first ride
Переглядів 8 тис.Місяць тому
The new Triumph Daytona 660 has created a lot of… erm… discussion online about whether it's hardcore enough to wear the Daytona name. Join me for my very first ride on UK roads on the new Daytona as I try to work out what it's trying to be - and whether it's any good at it. Does it feel more special than a Trident? Is the chassis too soft? Find out all this and more… in this video. Hooray. Full...
Is this 2024's best bike? KTM 1390 Super Duke R Evo review
Переглядів 21 тис.Місяць тому
Despite being called a 'technical refresh', the KTM 1390 SuperDuke R does feel a step on from the third-gen 1290 model. Join me as I poke around the new electronics, check out the riding position and all that good stuff - but mostly, find out why I think this is one of the best all-round bikes on sale right now. Can it tour? Can it excite? I think you know the answers, but watch the video anywa...
How good are modern 500s?! 2024 Honda CB500 Hornet first ride

I've been getting some stick for not featuring anything less than 100hp on the channel, so I duly booked in Honda's updated CB500F, now called the CB500 Hornet. Join me on an errand to fetch some specialist hand equipment as I'm surprised by what the little Honda delivers. Bit of a vlog this one, but full review will be along soon. 📸 Follow me on Instagram: timrodie 🚗 Check out my...
The best middleweight naked? 2024 Yamaha MT09 review
Переглядів 21 тис.Місяць тому
My time with the 2024 Yamaha MT09 is over and it's better than ever before. The myriad changes have added up to make it a more exciting bike than ever, while gaining a sense of confident handling it's never had. So yes, join me for a very in-depth review of the bike, its built-in navigation, electronics and general sense of silliness. 📸 Follow me on Instagram: timrodie 🚗 Check out...
A real road bike? 2024 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports review
Переглядів 24 тис.Місяць тому
Honda's given the Africa Twin a 19" front wheel, lower suspension and a new name - the Adventure Sports. This version's designed to be an on-road tourer with a 300-mile tank range, loads of torque and - in this particular case - a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Join me for a full review on living with the bike, I'll share its wins and foibles, frustrations and erm, bum chat. 📸 Follow me on Inst...
Naked perfection? 2024 Yamaha MT09 first ride
Переглядів 24 тис.Місяць тому
Yamaha's given the MT-09 a whole load of little updates for 2024 which have transformed the way it rides. Lower bars and a two-piece seat have transformed the riding position, while new switchgear and a new dash bring it upmarket. Join me for a quick blast home as I find out if it's any good. Hint: yes. Apologies for the giggling. 📸 Follow me on Instagram: timrodie 🚗 Check out my ...

Really enjoyed these videos, looking forward the the next ones 😊
Great video, I really enjoy these touring ones with the history chucked in , keep em coming 👍👍
These are definitely my favourite videos - partly because I’ve done similar trips (did the Dams a few years ago with my son - if you go back you should do the Technic Museum at Speyer which isn’t a million miles away) but also because the content is much more unique and I like your travelog style. I’m bored of road tests of bikes, where you see 10 reviews from different UA-camrs of the same bike over a few days!
Absolutely brilliant with history lesson, if I lived that close to the tunnel be over more often . First time I did a euro trip was in a street triple come back next bike must have cruise control.. so bought a super duke with panniers . My best friend is half German keeps telling me the places must visit in Germany . But he doesn’t ride a motorcycle so not a real friend lol . I’ve only been the black first twice so more to see unfortunately not enough time off work this year might be able ti sort something out in September. It’s 275 miles just to get to the euro tunnel for me . The horrible bit round M25 😢
Did you experience any overheatingm
Speed Triples have always featured that horrible headlight set-up. Time for a change, Triumph.
Really enjoyed the trip Tim. Gotta love the “10”. They really do get under your fingernails don’t they. Great blend of performance, comfort, sound, handling, and reliability. Looking forward to your next video!
Enjoyable series, makes me want to take annual leave and go on a trip 👍🏻
Anybody touring on an MT10 deserves my click !
Boss 👍
Great video. Thanks.
Lovely stuff Tim, a fine mix of action and information. Some Wish You Were Here Two Wheel vibes with the tour details too. Definitely inspirational/ aspirational!
Great video! Eastern Belgium (the Ardennes) and the Eifel/Hurtgen forest area are fantastic for the WW2 history-obsessed biker. So many great roads and so much WW2 stuff! At 18:40 you approached the two railway underpasses at Trois Ponts... it was just next to the entrance to the first underpass that a small group of American engineers from the 51st ECB tired to stop the advance, with an anti-tank gun, of Kampfgruppe Peiper, SS Leibstandarte Division during the early days of the Battle of the Bulge. If you haven't already, check out the book "Kampfgruppe Peiper - The Race for the Meuse" by David Cooke & Wayne Evans. Very detailed and identifies loads of locations were the action took place 🤓😊👍
A Tim here, loved my MT10 too. Great video the war stuff is so interesting i’ve read so much about it all. My grandfather talked a lot about when he fought to. Gotta Diavel V4 now and I have to say it’s flipping awesome.
Really enjoy this type of video and love the mt10 sp new to the channel and really like seeing your travels and all the history on the way 😀 👌👌keep up the good work 👏
Lovely open roads and Euro freedom Tim ❤ You now join Harry Metcalfe, in making automobil-unsinn my partner will watch with me 😮
Great series again Tim!
Really enjoyed this series, brilliant 👌🏼
These are my favourite type of vids. As a few others have said the mix of history & roads is 👌🏻Heading for Spain & Portugal late Aug for 2 weeks 2 up & then hoping to head for the Voges (1up) with a mate next spring. Look forward to the vids of your Sept trip & hope the old fella survives the Eurotunnel barrier this time!!!
Really enjoying the vlogs Tim they are right up my alley. Much as I love holidays with the family what I really look forward to is a bike trip or two in Europe with a couple of mates. There’s something special about leaving home with all your gear packed away on the bike and being totally independent all the way to the destination. I can highly recommend Colditz as part of a trip. Very interesting indeed you would love it.
Great series Tim
Military History & Motorbikery Fun!! My 2 favourite hobbies! Nice one mate…. Keep making these even if only a few sad geeks like myself watch them 🤩
Actually not a bad cost for five days away 👍! But no dinner and no beer just because you were the only two guests 🤨, Das ist verboten! 👎
I can't wait till sept, but make sure your dad keeps his visor down till he's in France.
Enjoyed all of that thank you Tim 😊
Tim, can I come…
Love these historic touring vids! Look forward to the next trip in September..
Sounds like a good trip.Do you ever compare with your previous KTM and your thoughts on that?LOve the history, thks.
I haven’t compared it to my KTM but will do soon in a 3000-mile review of the Yamaha. KTM is comfier, more creature comforts and still naughty, but I prefer the Yamaha on noise, cornering confidence and it just suits my riding style more
Glad to hear that you don´t care too much about the views on this series. Of course it would be nicer if they were big hits, but I personally enjoyed the videos. So I hope you will do something like this again. Gives me some ideas where to go on some of my next trips.
I’ll do these trips a few times a year Hopefully. Thanks for watching them, I do appreciate it!
@@timrodierides Do u have a video showing mods done to the MT10 for touring??
Great video. Thanks for doing this kind of stuff Tim, its really hepful for those of us who havent done much European touring. I'm going UK to Nice later this year on my Triumph Rocket (Apprehensive but excited 👍) PS: Glad to know i'm not the only only with a camp German accent 😆 Cheers!
Oh you’ll have an amazing time! Make sure you break up the motorways with some scenic twisties!
Just goes to show, I find these videos your most interesting! At the beginning of June I spent 10 days (7 days riding - went by boat 🥱zzzz) to the Picos and Pyrenees. As you say, I came back even more impressed with my CB750 Hornet (it's not a Hornet).
The boat is underrated (and overpriced 😂). Glad you had fun (I think it’s a Hornet!)🐝
Very interested in the history in which was a very dark time in Europe. My dad was involved in the liberation of Belsen and saw a fair bit of Germany as the third Reich collapsed. Such a crazy time then and hard to imagine now. Oh and the motorbike bit was good as well. Thank you.
Oh wow - your dad must have had some stories. Thanks for the comment
Yes he did. They were ordered not to talk to German civilians, which he did anyway. Years later we found a letter from a German woman,em. Surprise Stuka attacks and not being able to enter Hamburg because it was rubble. He found himself in charge of some German prisoners. He didn’t speak the language but managed to convey what he wanted by waving a big stick around. Got on quite well with them apparently. He was a very mild mannered man so the thought of the big stick thing was quite funny. Of Belsen he remembers the bodies being bulldozed into a big pit and a Jewish who came up to him with a flower to thank him for her freedom. Chilling stuff.
I love these vids and yes nothing better than riding your bike in Europe . Cheers Tim 👌
Cheers Ian!
The videos are great and I like you doing the European disagreement between 1939-1945 never seen them dam photos before
great set of vids …I’m sure you can forgive her drinking habits …i really wanted an MT10 but i cant deal with the seating position ..also is some of the footage different quality ? especially the action stuff
It’s a GoPro 12 so about as good as it gets from an action cam but the quality depends on how much light there is
thanks for the reply…enjoy your Sunday
😀
I’ve said it before, but I really like these mixed history/biker vids, I think it works really well……. The Mrs and I just watched and decided we’re gonna do a similar search in Germany later this year, possibly ending up in Heidelberg where her brother lives. Gonna do the Obersalzburg region too. Very cool 👍👍
Thank you! I love Heidelberg… had a dubious nightclub experience there when I was much younger
@@timrodierides yeah we go there a lot, for obvious reasons, but haven’t explored any war history. I had heard it’s the only major city that the allies didn’t bomb, hence lots of old stuff survives, but I don’t know if that’s true.
Really enjoying this trip Tim. As an Aussie I'll probabably never get to ride in this part of the world. So, thank you for the great content.
Thank you for the kind comment and watching!
As is always the case with KTM .. many put off by poor reliability & having to fight tooth and nail 4 any warranty claims 👎
The amount of times that person in front of you hit the brakes drives me crazy LOL. No wonder why people complain about bike maintenance costs.
The R12 looks much better than the previous NineT models ... those things were ugly as.
Used to use my iPhone with google maps but bike vibes wrecked the camera even with quadlock vibe mount. Happened twice. I now use an old dedicated iPhone with google maps (download offline maps) and this does it for me. Keep my own phone in my pocket. I can see the benefit of a dedicated XT2 though. Nice review.
Thank you!
Beautiful country with a sad past.Thks.
Clearly this guy is an Apple tragic - no mention of the excellent android auto fitted on the '24. Just generally, he's a bit lazy in the review, to say unprofessional would be unkind, so I won't.
Alright Brian. There are better bikes
@@timrodierides Of course there are but at what? In what way? I currently own a Multistrada with 150+HP but it is the most unreliable bit of junk I've owned in 40+ years. I'm looking to trade on the '25 Africa Twin when it arrives with the supercharger next year, which will certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons. Even now, with 'only' 100hp, I'd prefer this one over the Multi. The power arrives early in a wave of torque, unlike the multi which needs the tits revved off it to realised the full power. So, just because conventional wisdom says a bike is 'better' during a 20 min review (like a Multi Vs Africa Twin for example) it doesn't often carry across that it is. The Honda would be a MUCH more equitable ownership experience than the 'thrown-together-from-a-distance' Ducati. This is something reviewers often gloss over, if mention at all - the real world ownership experience - just as important as the initial ride experience if not moreso. This is all besides the point I'm making, of course, about the excellent Android Auto fitted to the AT.
On the dino it's 106.7 HP, so not 120 HP, triumph are lighters.
There's a difference between power measured at the crank and power measured at the rear wheel. Normally you lose about 10% through the transmission.
Can it overlay rain radar?
It can’t overlay it on your route map (I don’t think) but it’ll show you a weather radar of your location. It’s super handy
The nineT is amazing… I would trade my MT-09 for the bimmer
Bought 1 last week. Fun, love it and down sizing from BIGGER BMW's
Had a 1999 speed triple and a 2007 ktm 990 superduke. I would ride those over the new mt09. That’s how much more fun they are than a Yamaha or Honda.
The bomber talk got old at some point. It's not like there's much left of the UK these days either.
